Building Better Futures for Our Children
Abstract
Early Childhood Development (ECD) is an umbrella term referring to the first developmental stage in a child’s life. Between the ages of 0-5, children experience a rush of accelerated growth…physically, mentally, emotionally, morally, and socially. A child’s brain development in the first six years of life sets the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour, and health. The education, care and attention children receive from their parents and other caregivers during this crucial period have a decisive effect on their personal futures as well as on the economy and society in general. The following is a report that outlines the activities that were carried out throughout the project for Early Childhood Development. The main goal of this project was to identify the resources, programs, services, and the needs of each community on the Lower North Shore in regards to youth aged 0-5 and as a result increase the resources available to support early childhood programs on the Coast.
